Warman Drivetrain, Quake 1 and 3 independent tone review
Ladies, Gentlemen, Fine People and Goatherds – Ever since we set up Warman Guitars, some 10+ years ago now, we’ve been asked for sound clips of our pickups. Infuriatingly for those asking the question I’ve always come back with the rather odd ( well they thought so ) response that we don’t actually ever produce nor publish our own sound samples of the pickups. My reasoning behind this is that by not doing so we can never be accused of altering or tweaking the sound clips to sound how we want them. We’ve always hoped that out of the many happy customer we have that some people, some where, will be impressed enough by a mix of their own financial acumen and the sound our offering make to post their own, undoctored and not interfered with by us, sound clips / videos of Warman pickups.
Over time this has proven to be true and there are now many YouTube videos dotted around the Interweb where you can listen to real customers sound clips and their comments upon what we do. One such individual is Robert McClellan. Robert is totally independent of Warman, I’ve never met him, we don’t pay anything and he has no connection with our business but oh my word does he produce some in-depth product reviews on all things guitar and home recording. I’ve posted the link / video of his review of our Drivetrain and the Quakes 1 and 3 below for your delectation and, as the man says during it, its worth your while subscribing to his YouTube channel for a host of other content and independent reviews on the things that will interest you. So without further ado.
Ibanez RG style wiring of 2 Warman humbucker HH with 5 way lever switch.
Having recently cleaned up my sons Ibanez RG, now he’s getting back into playing, I thought I’d transpose the RG wiring layout to our own humbucker wire colours for those nerdy ones of you who are interested. I haven’t actually wire this up yet but theoretically ( don’t you just love that get out clause ) it should be correct.
Switch use is one of our standard 8 lug 5 postion lever switches and gives you the following tonal options.
Position 1 – neck humbucker with both coils in series, standard humbucker tone
Position 2 – neck humbucker with both coils in parallel, kind of a big fat single coil sound
Position 3 – neck and bridge humbuckers in standard tone arrangement
Position 4 – inner single coils neck and bridge sorry of like a wide ranged humbucker tone
Position 5 – bridge humbucker both coils in series, standard humbucker tone.
As I said this is an ‘on paper’ schematic that I haven’t actually wired up yet so let me know how you get along.
